I started doing glass as a student ten years ago. Since I had a huge ceramic kiln, it was easy to switch to making it a glass kiln. After a few years, I decided to go out on my own and see what I could find out there in “space” The varieties of glass, the colors available, and the decorative aspects of glass make it a great medium. There is nothing more exciting to a glass artist than opening a kiln and seeing what you made!

The piece above was made using stringers – very small diameter “strings” of glass. I fused fired it, then draped it on the form I use for candle holders. By cutting the stringers longer, when it draped it made the little lip on the edge, which I think is very cute.

The handkerchief/candle holder pattern is frequently ordered and so easy to make. Starting with an 8 x 8 or 6 x 6 base, , decorating it with contrasting or complementary colors it is ready for the fused firing. From that it goes through one more firing to drape the piece. The great thing is that these pieces always come out of the kiln in different shapes.

This is an example of my first use of dichroic glass. This piece was made for our granddaughter, who was ten at the time, and loved butterflies.

What’s Valentine’s Day without some hearts to show? This piece is made on a cream base and I added dark red hearts. You can see Cupid pierced the hearts!!

I special ordered this glass for a friend who was expecting her first grandchild. Way back, there were not “reveal” parties, so finding this pink and blue variegated glass made it a great choice for this project. I used a baby blue base, and after a fuse firing, was able to size it perfectly to be glued to the wooden box you see here.

Who doesn’t like cupcakes? Frothy pink icing on top of a freshly made purple cupcake. The dichroic glass serves as the folds in a wrapper. This was a special order but others can be made using a variety of glass products. The above piece is $ 50 and the larger one below is $ 65.

Check out the other pieces I have made, along with the dimensions and prices. Then let me know if you desire a different color or want a specific mold (plate, bowl, etc.) I do have other molds that can be used. I can make anything in a mold up to 11 inches – if you desire a larger sized piece, I will have to have it fired elsewhere.
Remember, the fired glass is food safe unless otherwise marked. You can use each piece as a serving dish or as a decoration using an easel or hangars. Measurements are approximate.
My pieces are one-of-a-kind: with glass, you can make six pieces alike on the table, yet each piece is unique from all the others once it is fired, thanks to the interference of those kiln gods. So, if you see a piece displayed here, and want an “exact” one to purchase, I will do my best to make it, but more likely than not, it will be “similar” but not the exact replication. Or, if you want the piece in a different color, I can most likely do that as well.

Since I cannot read fish bubble language, if you want to communicate through email, use beachbumv4@hotmail.com, and in the SUBJECT line, put “glass purchase” so it does not inadvertently end up in my junk box, leaving you to wonder if I received it! I will send a return email, and we will go from there.

Purchases can be made on PayPal, paypal.me/sallysglassworks, or cash. I will not send my pieces COD. Shipping charges are not included but I will ship the cheapest way possible through the USPS. I will use the boxes provided that best fit the piece or pieces you order.

What can I say about Covid 19 that hasn’t been said. Quarantine, masks, statistics – all became a part of our now “normal” conversations. Having to stay home was not so bad – I made LOTS of new glass pieces and designed a few of them myself. When I needed glass I could order it online and have it shipped right to our door! We will all get through this and come out stronger in many ways! We will soon be thinking of winter and then Christmas, so look here as I will be adding more winter scenes and decorative pieces! In the meantime, stay healthy and safe, and enjoy life!!

Silk Screen Pieces
These pieces are made based on a class from a Florida Artist, who nicely put them on YOUTUBE for us to see. I fell in love with this new procedure and made dozens of new pieces using silk screening. I fuse the base glass after painting it with a ponce. After the firing, I silk screen a picture or scene on the glass. A third firing is done to slump it into a mold. The pieces here are all FOOD SAFE, as I used Glass Line paints. When I start using Easy Fire Enamel paints, I will mark those I make that are NOT food safe.

Two years ago, I decided to try jewelry making with glass, and fell in love with the versatility of glass, this time creating smaller pieces. Most of my jewelry pieces are made using dichroic glass, which has a pattern on it’s own, but when added to plain glass, it makes a beautiful pendant! For the jewelry, pendants include a necklace if desired, or they are ready for the chain you already have! I personally have three chains – gold, silver and black, and use those with the pendants I wear.
